FARIS CHEVALIER SETS SIGHT ON CARR & GEALE
By TOM WATT on Aug 11 2015
On Saturday night Faris Chevalier (9-1-0, 5 KOs) defeated Tej Singh in a lopsided decision victory to claim the vacant Australian Light Middleweight Title. It was a solid performance from the highly rated Parisian against a very tough and awkward opponent in Tej Singh and Chevalier is now looking to add some big names to his resume as he continues his rise to prominence. Winning the Aussie title is something Chevalier is very happy with and he will look to defend his belt next time out.
Speaking after his Title win Chevalier stated that he previously tried to get a fight made with former belt-holder, Jake Carr, but claims that Carr did not want to fight him although he is still open to it should the undefeated Aussie want to reclaim his belt.
“He had the opportunity a few times to fight me and nothing happened but if he wants to make it, we can make it.”
But the talented Chevalier is not looking to at just Jake Carr and has his sights higher up the rankings.
“I’m looking for big fights, I’m looking for big names. I heard Daniel Geale is back n the country, he is looking for a fight. If he wants to test himself at Super Middleweight, I am ready.
"He’s got the opportunity once again to fight for the Australian Title”
It’s unlikely Geale would be interested in a fight with Chevalier at this point, there just isn’t enough money on the table. But Geale was ringside and would have been impressed with what he saw from the new Aussie Champion. If Chevalier is able to claim a few more scalps and maybe get a few of his fights on Fox Sports or Channel 9 then the Geale fight may become a reality. For now though there are other domestic options such as Blake Caparello (21-1-1), Serge Yannick (17-4-0) and Zac Dunn (18-0-0) that are probably more within his reach.
