TWO GENERATIONS, ONE FIGHT CARD
By TOM WATT on Aug 12 2015
It was recently announced that hot rising New Zealand Heavyweight prospect, Joseph Parker would face off against former World Heavyweight Title challenger, Kali ‘Meenhands’ Meehan in Auckland on October 15th. As mentioned in my previous article this is a huge step up in class for Parker as he looks to back up all the recent hype surrounding his rise to prominence.
This fight will see Meehan once again Boxing in New Zealand where it all began for him but this night will be special for another reason, October 15 will see a father and son fighting on the same card as Kali’s son Willis Meehan (3-0-0, 2 KOs) is also scheduled to fight on the undercard.
The the young cross-over athlete who has divided his youth between playing for NRL side Sydney Roosters and fighting professionally seems to have a bright career ahead of him following 3 straight wins to kick off his career that includes a brutal 1st round KO win on the undercard of Daniel Geale v Jarrod Fletcher. Willis has been gifted with his father’s size and natural flair for fighting, exhibited not only in his three wins to date but also through his sparring with the likes of Aussie Heavyweights Alex Leapai and Lucas Browne, reportedly getting the better of both men on occasions.
Willis’s opponent has yet to be name for the Duco Events card in Auckland but T2TBoxing will bring you all the latest news and will be catching up with both Willis and Kali during their training camp.
