LAURYN EAGLE, PAUL FLEMING & MORE IN HURSTVILLE
By TOM WATT on June 10 2015
This coming Saturday in Hurstville sees a fantastic showcase of Aussie Boxing with Lauryn Eagle, Paul ‘Showtime’ Fleming, Dylan Emery and Hassan El Husseini all taking to the ring at the Entertainment Centre.
T2TBoxing was there at the last J.N.I Promotions night to see Billel Dib defeat Bebong Manalo for the interim WBO Oriental Super Featherweight Title (See Billel’s post fight interview here). Saturday night promises to have even more excitement with a packed card of professional fights.
Lauryn Eagle headlines the show in 10 round fight against a yet to be named opponent, Eagle will be expected to come through this with a routine win as she looks ahead to a big fight later this year. There had been rumours Eagle was being tapped up to take part in the growing Big Knockout Boxing in America and the former water-skiing champion turned fighter and TV presenter will likely have a number of offers coming her way given her celebrity status and ability to draw a crowd. Many however will doubt Eagle’s chances of making a credible Title challenge given that since her defeat to Daniella Smith in 2012 she has fought 6 times with her opponents coming in with a combined record of (2-13-3), the last of which coming against a debutant. Eagle is star though and always put on a show for the fans, Saturday night will be no difference.
Also on the card is undefeated Super Featherweight prospect Paul Fleming, the former 2008 Olympian is trained by the highly respected Billy Hussein out of the Bodypunch Gym and comes into Saturday night with a record of (20-0-0, 13 KOs). Now signed with American powerhouse, Top Rank Promotions, Fleming has the World at his feet and is targeting a World Title shot within the year. Saturday night is another opportunity to send a statement to the rest of the division that includes fellow Aussies Billel and Billy Dib.
Another man taking to the ring this Saturday night is local favourite, Hassan El Husseini – after some time out of the Sport for personal reasons Hassan is now on a mission to reach the pinnacle of the sport. Also trained by Billy Hussein, Hassan is an exciting fighter to watch, he is coming down in weight for each of his fights and it makes for interesting viewing – Hassan’s last fight was a slug-fest from beginning to end and had the crowd on their feet throughout, expect nothing less this Saturday. (See our interview with Hassan after his last fight here)
As well as these fighters, Dylan Emery, Troy Russell and Geroid Clancy will also be featuring against yet to be named opponents.
Doors open at 6.30pm with fights starting at 7.15pm.
