KAMBOSOS TAKES NEXT STEP TO WORLD TITLE AND WANTS CROLLA & LOMACHENKO NEXT!

George Kambosos Jr currently sits at number 7 in the WBA’s rankings, should he overcome Krai Setthaphon (25-2-0) this Friday he will also be ranked top 15 with the IBF. All of this he says, is part of his team’s plan as they look to force themselves into the reckoning for big-money, World-Title fights in 2018. I recently caught up with him at Gairy St Clair’s gym in the south of Sydney to discuss his upcoming fight and plans for the future.
Although only 12-0, Kambosos Jr has already established himself, in a division not short of talent, as Australia’s leading Lightweight and has built a reputation as someone more than willing to take on the tougher fights and his most recent fights, wins over Brandon Ogilvie and Qamil Balla, are a testament to this attitude. As he continues his ascent up the ranks there is no signs of a change in direction and the young Aussie is even open to taking on challengers in other weight-divisions – providing of course, that it makes sense for him.
“I’m a lightweight, I’ve campaigned my whole career at lightweight but in saying that, if there is a huge World Title fight at Super-Featherweight or at Light-Welterweight or even Welterweight. I’ve got the body to go up, or come down so no problem, I’ll fight anyone, anytime, anyplace – as long as it’s worth my while. And if it’s not worth my while, one thing that could change my mind is green, so get that money and I can put an ass-whooping on anyone”

One thing when spending time with Kambosos Jr that you cannot ignore is the single-minded, tunnel-vision he has around his career and his progression – or the sheer belief he has in his own ability, a belief that all Champions must have and something the outspoken Kambosos has in spades. When discussing the current crop of lightweight talent that includes the likes of Mikey Garcia and Jorge Linares, another name that Kambosos has previously mentioned a few times, Antony Crolla also came up.
“I love that fight, I’ve said it before, I’ll go to the UK and fight in his backyard, I’m the young Aussie guy, let’s get it on. England v Australia – we have a good rivalry, he’s a former champ, I’m a future champ, let’s get it on”
Despite these grand plans there is no way Kambosos will overlook this fight on Friday and using this as an opportunity to once again show the Australia and the rest of the World what he is capable of inside the ring.
“After what I’ve done in sparring with Manny (Pacquiao) – an all-time great, and with (Ray) Beltran and (Gilberto) Ramirez… people haven’t seen, there’s so much more for Ferocious to bring to that ring and I want to showcase myself on Friday night”
