KLITSCHKO V BROWNE FOR WBA & IBO TITLES?
According to BoxRec, it looks as though Wladimir Klitscho and Lucas Browne will be facing off in Hamburg December 10th, for the WBA and IBO Heavyweight World Titles. If true, this finally puts to rest heavy speculation that the former Unified Champion would face Britain's Anthony Joshua on the same date in the UK.
The heavyweight landscape has been thrown in to dis-array following Fury's recent troubles, wit Promoters and managers scrambling to fight for the now vacant Titles. Browne was linked with fights against Fres Oquendo, Alexander Ustinov and David Haye for the WBA 'regular' belt but the chance to fight Klitschko for the 'Super' title will no doubt be an opportunity Browne and his team could not pass up.
The hard-hitting Australian will be no stranger to travelling to a hostile atmosphere having dethroned Ruslan Chagaev in Chechnya earlier this year - under extremely controversial circumstances - and will be acutely aware of the advantages his veteran opponent will look to gain on home soil in the lead up their clash.
On first glance, Browne is a perfect match for Klitshcko with the Ukrainian holding countless wins over shorter, heavy-hitting opponents through the use of his almost trademark jab and clinch technique that propelled him to his 11 year reign as Heavyweight Champion of the World. Klitschko knows what he must do to win and the pressure will undoubtedly be on the Australian to find a way to work effectively on the inside without allowing himself to be smothered.
The former unified Champion will be an undoubted favourite going into the fight in Hamburg although many will question whether he has aged even further since his defeat to Fury where he looked far from his dominant best and, as with all heavyweight clashes, it only takes a moment for a punch to change everything and as we saw in Chechnya, Browne holds the power to make his opportunity stick should it come.
Of course, for now, there has been no confirmation from any promoter, broadcaster or fighter and until then, nothing is official.
I reached out to Browne and he had this to say:
"I'm willing and hoping.
I'm training my ass off no matter what, when, where or who"
