BIG DADDY BACK IN SYDNEY
Tomorrow night in Sydney we will see the return to the ring of Lucas ‘Big Daddy’ Browne as he takes on Matt Greer in what he hopes will be the first step on a long road back to the pinnacle of the heavyweight division. Browne takes on the experienced American, Matthew Greer in his first fight since defeating Ruslan Chagaev in Chechnya in March last year.
It’s been a tough year for the former Australian, Commonwealth and (briefly) WBA World Heavyweight Champion, since being stripped of his wBA Title, Browne has faced an uphill struggle to clear his name and hopes Friday night will be the first page of a new chapter in which he can force his way back into contention for a World Title in a division that is red hot right now following the blockbuster that was Anthony Joshua vs Klitschko.
Before he does so, the well-travelled and durable Matthew Greer stands in his way, a less than formidable 16-20-0 record would suggest that Greer offers little more than an opportunity to shake off some ring-rust for Browne, but the tough American has been in with the likes of James Toney, Shannon Briggs and Deontay Wilder and will be out to make life difficult for the Australian and will not go down without a fight. Expect to see fireworks as long as this one lasts, Browne has had a frustrating time of late and will be looking to exercise those demons when he laces up the gloves tomorrow night.
I caught up with Lucas earlier this week and his interview can be seen below. To watch the fight live click here
