NEW BOYS LOOKING TO SHAKE THINGS UP
By Tom Watt on Sep 5 2017
In 5 weeks’ time, DDP Sports (headed by Paul Keegan and Danny Dilmas) host their very first show, with Dennis Hogan (25-1-1) v Yuki Nonaki (31-8-3) headlining an exciting night of fights that also includes the likes of former Heavyweight World Title contender, Alex ‘The Lionheart’ Leapai (30-7-3) and Rohan Murdock (19-1-0).
So what are DDP planning to do differently than other promoters? And what is their goal?
According to one half of the DDP Sports Management team, Paul Keegan, as well as putting on a competitive card top to bottom, DDP are looking to take Boxing events in Australia to another level. Out is the traditional ringside tables and in comes a more USA/UK-inspired arena-like seating that brings fans closer to the action and is guaranteed to lift the often tame ringside atmosphere that should, in turn, help raise the fighters.
“That’s what we are looking for, to bring a footy-style atmosphere to Boxing. – Pacquaio v Horn proved that it works and that there is appetite for good-quality Boxing from the fans when it’s available”
That much is undeniable, as well as being a huge commercial success for Horn’s team and for Brisbane, the Pacquiao v Horn fight showed that the Australian public will flock to a great sports event – and there-in lies the key, Pacquiao v Horn was an event, and that is exactly what DDP are looking to re-create with their shows, with some influence from the hugely successful UK markets that have seen an explosion in recent years.
Hogan v Nonaki will be a weekend-event with public weigh-ins, a pre-show VIP dinner featuring Jeff Horn and of course, the fights themselves, fans will be given plenty of opportunity to soak in the action and enjoy the show. Tickets for the event can be purchased HERE and below is the confirmed line-up so far:
