CONFIRMED!! RENOLD QUINLAN TO FACE CHRIS EUBANK JR TO DEFEND IBO TITLE!!
It has just been confirmed that current IBO Super Middleweight World Champion, Renold Quinlan, will face off against Chris Eubank Jr. in February at the Lee Valley Velopark in East London's Olympic park, live on ITV.
Quinlan, fresh off the back of a KO victory over former World Champion, Daniel Geale in October has stated his desire to become 'Australia's next superstar' and a fight against such an established opponent will be another massive step in that direction.
Having previously turned down World Title fights with with Billy Joe Saunders (WBO), Daniel Jacobs (WBA Regular) and Gennady Golovkin (WBA Super), Eubank Jr will finally challenge for a World Title and will no doubt see Quinlan as his easiest route to that first Title. Underestimating Quinlan could prove costly though though - something Geale, who's only previous KO defeats came at the hands of Miguel Cotto and Gennady Golovkin found out.
Stepping up to Super-Middleweight may also signal the death, for now at least, of a much-anticipated rematch with Billy Joe Saunders - but opens the door to other mouthwatering all-British clashes - George Groves, James DeGale and Callum Smith being the obvious names in that talent-rich division.
Fort Quinlan, a win would cement among the elite in the current crop of Australian boxing, with his win over Geale in Tasmania not being televised, Quinlan perhaps does not quite have that acknowledgement from the widEr Australian public as of yet but a high-profile win over fighter as hyped as hyped as Eubank Jr could not be ignored.
